Compound Bow Kits Barikiwa Archery Compound Bow Shop Of all the archery styles in South Africa, the Compound Bow is by far the most popular. Why It is easy to obtain equipment. It is easy to learn to shoot. Archery Software' title='Archery Software' />There are many archery shops around to assit you. It is easy to find a place to shoot. There are a host of competitions or archery events activities to participate in. There is no age restriction. It is something that you may do as a family together A large number of new archers enters the sport yearly. South Africa is also a prime hunting destination. Many international hunters visit the country yearly in search of a trophy. Many South African hunters hunt for meat, of for biltong. You do not need a license to own a bow, or to hunt with a bow. Many new hunters enter the sport yearly, partly because they find it more and more difficult to obtain licenses for their rifles, but there are also many guys that always wanted to hunt but didnt have the means to. There are mainy two styles of compound bow archery. As above, the first is the hunting style. This is by far the most popular style. There are many hunting style competitions every month, competitions simulating the hunt. Everyone may not be interested in hunting, but many people enjoy the hunting style competitions you walk in the veldt, with your family and are presented with all kinds of tricky shots to take with your bow sometimes on pictures of animals 2. D and sometimes on life size rubber replicas of animals 3. D. The second style is the pure target shooting style. Here the archer will compete either outdoors longer distances or indoors short distances against another on a round target, you score a 1. Many archers combine the two styles. Then of course many people just shoot for the fun. On this page, well take a quick look at the compound bow and answer a few questions about this style Getting Started. Shown here on the left is a modern compound bow. This is the bow only, that is, there are no accessories fitted on the bow. This is typically what you get when you purchase a bow there are of course a myriad of shapes and sizes of bows, different limbs, different combinations of cams the wheels, etc., too much to discuss here. Can you shoot the bow like this Well, in theory, yes you can, but very few people will do it is called bare bow shooting, if you would like to google it. Mostly, you first need to accessorize the bow. There are many different options for each type of accessory that you can fit on the bow, ranging in price and features offered. Here we will only list what you need. On the Arrow Shelf there is a fitting for an Arrow Rest. The arrow rest supports the arrow as you take aim and as you release the arrow it will guide the arrow. It is the last part of the bow that will have contact with the arrow as it becomes air borne. It is a very important piece of equipment. In general, when we have to advise someone, if you have a bit extra to spend when purchasing your bow, get yourself a good quality arrow rest In the Sight Window there is a fitting for a Sight. Generally these are little dots pins fitted with optical fibres of different colours. You get adjustable sights with only one pin and multiple pin sights where the individual pins are adjustable. The sight gives you a point to put on the target when you aim. Later on you may get yourself an advanced sighting system, but initially it is not important. Thus when starting out, get yourself a basic sight, later on when you have built up some experience and know what you want you may investigate one of the more advanced sighting systems. In the front, below the Grip, there is a Stabilizer Mount. You will fit astabilizer in here. Stabilization is a very advanced topic. It is something that an advanced archer will worry about and may spend quite a bit of time and money on later in his career. For now it is not important. What is important is that you fit a basic stabilizer on your bow. Gta Russian Game there. In short, all it does for the moment, is it acts as a counter balance for the weight that you added above the centerline the rest and the sight to ensure a balance in your bow when you shoot. Many of the basic stabilizers involve quite a bit of rubber note this, the rubber is good it will absorb many of the vibrations in the bow when you shoot, giving you a more stable shot. Next, you will add a Peep sight in your string. It is a little round ring with a hole in the center when you aim, you look through the peep in your sight, align your sight pin in the centre of the peep, and align those on your target when the sight has been set in calibrated, your arrow will impact where the sight pin points. A Peep is inexpensive, it comes in various sizes of course, for the beginner the size is not really important the standard one that your shop will fit you is fine. You will add a D Loop on your string, it is just a piece of string but a very strong material that the shop will tie onto your string. This is where your release aid will hook onto your string. Finally you will need a release aid. This is a mechanical device with a grip at the front and a trigger. Mostly it straps around your wrist but as with everything else you do get different designs. The grip will grip onto your D Loop. You will now use this to pull your string back. To release the string, you pull the trigger, which open the grip and releases the string. From there the name release aid. Now of course you can pull the string with your fingers, but you will find 1 it hurts, 2 at full draw the angle of the string is such that it pinches your fingers and 3 it is unstable from one shot to the next, causing a lot of variability in your shots unless of course you are a very experienced archer. The release aid is very important and a good release aid is a great investment. Our advice is that after the arrow rest, if you still want to sepnd more, then get yourself a good quality release aid. Yes, there are more stuff, but in general the above is all you need to start shooting. Here are a few options Get yourself some wax you will use wax to maintain your string cables. Ask your shop assistant to show you how to use it, in general you will rub it onto your string, but you need to melt it into the string to be effective use a piece of leather to quickly rub the wax onto the string. Wax is inexpensive and will last you a long time. Get yourself an Ellenkey set. All the little screws on your rest and sight and sight pins, etc. US sizes, not the standard sizes we use in South africa, so get yourself a toolkit with the different size ellenkeys. Get yourself a bow bag to put all you stuff in and protect your bow, or a bow case if you intend putting it on an airplane. That said, I dont use a bow bag, my bow just rides on the backseat of my car. Get yourself an arrow quiver to hold your arrows you get the style that fits directly on the bow, a bow quiver, great for when you go hunting, but extra weight on the bow alternatively get yourself a hip quiver which straps onto your belt on your side. It also has pockets for a pen and scorepad, your tools, maybe a pocket knife to cut your arrow out of the tree.
